The Tigers have started their 7s season, traveling to the University of Alabama Birmingham (UAB) this past weekend to test their mettle. And rise to the test they did, winning all 5 matches in this early season round robin.
They teed off with Spring Hill, besting them 19-5. The University of Alabama brought two sides and the Tigers finished Bama B with a score of 17 to nil. They then took on 2021 SCRC Conference and collegiate 15s champions, The Auburn Tigers. Your Memphis Tigers ran away with it, 43-0, leaving the pitch with a satisfied grin, savoring the win over their conference rivals. The final match of the weekend pitted the Tigers against the host team UAB, with the Tigers easily winning 17-5. The Tigers undefeated on the day. What fun!
Coach Phil Beck, our 7s specialist, said that the Tiger match against Auburn was “championship material”. “The boys felt great and had a really good tim,” said Coach Beck. “We have lots to work on, but this is a really good start for our season.”
This was a solid team effort with everyone contributing but three fellows earned special Tiger Tournament Honors. Josh Scott (14), Shehrab Bagha (24) and Tully Day (5) had special moments, assuring the Tiger victory on the weekend.
Well done, Lads. Thanks for working hard. We’re ever more excited about this season.
