April 24, 2022, Murfreesboro, TN – Your Memphis Tigers are conference D2 Champions following the Southeastern Collegiate Rugby Conference (SCRC) 7s tournament this weekend at Middle Tennessee State University.
In an interesting tournament format, D2 and D1 teams played in pool play. The Tigers were beaten by D1 Kentucky, won the forfeit from D1 Kennesaw State and then lost to D1 Clemson. The win vindicated the Tiger leadership’s decision to have the Bluff City 7s home tournament on Easter weekend, the weekend prior to the SCRC Championships. Though the weekend schedule collapsed from teams pulling out, Sam Houston came to the rescue and gave the Tigers the test that they needed to marshal a win at SCRC. “We really thought having a tune up weekend at home before the tournament would position our players in the best position to win the SCRC,” said Rick Cole, Tiger Director of Rugby. “I’m really glad it worked out for the lads.”
“The boys showed amazing skill, playing hard against D1 opponents,” said Coach Phil. “They kept their chins up, fought to stay on the front foot and made us all proud.”

With the conference win the Tigers are invited to attend the USA Rugby National Collegiate Championship, May 14-15 in Kennesaw, Georgia and the NCR Collegiate Rugby Championship, May 28-30 in New Orleans, LA.
