Tigers Tear Through Conference Opponents

The Memphis Tiger Rugby Team has had a good run this season, having bested each of their opponents and going undefeated in Southeastern Collegiate Rugby Conference (SCRC) – Tier 2 play. The Tigers squeaked by Georgia Tech in their first match but since then have been handily beating opponents averaging over 30 points per match.

The Tigers beat Mississippi State yesterday 31-19 in a match that showed the Tigers handily in control with a 28-0 halftime score. “We were able to give our developing players some significant match time”, said Coach Marc Holley. “The day was soppy because of the rain, but the Tigers played well and are getting better each week.”

The Tigers face their toughest test next week against cross state rival Middle Tennessee State University (MTSU). The Tigers have never beaten MTSU over the past 10 years and are hungry to change that dynamic. “We are so ready for MTSU, said captain Musa Banat. We lost by one point the last time we played and we are a much better team this year.

The Tigers will host MTSU this Saturday, November 2 at Memorial Field at 451 Zach Curlin Street on the Memphis campus. Kickoff will be at 1:00 pm. Fans, alumni and friends are encouraged to come out and cheer your Tigers to Victory.

Regardless of the outcome, the Tigers will be facing MTSU again in the conference playoffs, since The Tigers and MTSU sit in the top two posts in SCRC Tier 2 Conference play. The top two teams in the Tier 2 bracket face each other at the conference playoffs on November 16.
