The Tigers beat MTSU this past Saturday 11/2/2019 to win the Southeastern Collegiate Rugby Conference D2 Championship. The Tigers went undefeated in conference play this season, falling only to the University of Tennessee in crossover play against the D1AA stalworth.
By 25 minutes into the first period the Tigers had jumped to a 12-0 lead and stayed comfortably ahead through the entire game, dominating in all phases of play. Halftime score was 24-8. MTSU, however are very proud and not to be trifled with. With consistent urging of their veteran coach Jody Hensley they fought every step of the way. They closed the gap a bit late, making a hard run to score in the close of the second period to bring the score to a more respectable 27-15.

The Tigers continued the hosting of MTSU by taking them to Newby’s on the Highland Strip for some post match socializing. There were lots of Tiger fans and alumni at Newby’s as well, celebrating and savoring the victory.

As is typical, Coach Marc Holley was reticent. “We had a good day,” said Coach Holley. “We need to keep learning our lessons, but I felt glad for the boys today. They deserved this win. They have worked very hard this season.”

The Tigers now go on to post season play and will likely face either Xavier, Marshall or Kent State, on November 16th. These teams are completing their conference playoffs.
This is the strongest the Tigers have ever been since reforming in 2006. We are mainly freshmen and sophomores so we have room to grow. We have the strongest core of coaches in the conference. If we can hold the team together, the future looks very bright.

Post season play is expensive and we are asking Tiger Nation to step up and help the lads with a substantial gift that we could use to cover the post season expenses. Post season weekends include 11/16 (TBD), 11/23 at Furman University and 12/7 in Charlotte, North Carolina. Please click the link below and invest in the Tigers. We promise to use every dime carefully.

Please sign up your Kroger Card to give the Tigers free money. This can be done here.
Please join the Tiger Rugby 100 Club. We need 100 supporters to give us at least $10 per month. You can sign up to be a monthly supporter here. Thanks to Tiger Alums and supporters Steve Ballard, Chris Lemons and many others for being monthly supporters.
