Tigers Elect New Officers

Captain Chris Lemons

President Thomas Strickland

Secretart Bert Milam

Treasurer Cameron Walton

Cameron Walton – Treasurer

The Tigers elected new leadership at their recent season kickoff party at Ubee’s.

Chris Lemons was retained as captain of the side. Thomas Strickland assumed the responsibilities of president. Bert Milam has moved from treasurer to secretary. Cameron Walton has taken the responsibilities as treasurer.

The captain and officers constitute the selection committee and decide who will start each match and set the depth charge for substitutions.  The coaches are advisory in this process.

More than any other sport, rugby requires strong leadership on the field. Coaches cannot help very much with the play during the match since there are no timeouts in rugby.  The captain must make solid decisions during the match with regard to tactics and playing style.  He must know that his 14 fellow players will heed his direction and that they will adjust as needed.

The coaches are thrilled with the selection of leaders this year. “I think we have some excellent talent at the top”, stated Coach Cole.  “These leaders should significantly strengthen our team.”

Tigers Start Training for Spring Season

The Tigers will have a Team Meeting at Ubee’s on Thursday the 15th at 6:30. We need to sort out how we will proceed in the season. We will have elections for open officer positions. Officers will comprise the selection committtee for matches with advice from the coaches.  Rugby is a team led sport and we will continue to train team leadership to fulfill their responsibilities.  This issue is critical for the cohesion of the team as we move forward.  Start thinking now who you want to serve as president, secretary, treasurer, and captain for the spring season.

Importantly, we have a Tiger Camp at Memorial Saturday the 17th starting with forwards at 10:00am and ending with the backs at 4:30.  Everyone will need to be at this camp. Halfbacks and loose forwards should plan to be there all day. We will also start at 10 with the kickers.

Here is the schedule

10:00- 12:00 forwards, halfbacks and kickers

12:00 lunch for all players – whiteboard discussion

1:00 team training

2:30- 4:30 backs and loose forwards.

Players who plan to be there need to contact me. If you are interested in playing rugby at Memphis, please contact me. My contact information is available here.

Regular practice starts Tuesday and Thursdays 3:30 to 5:30 on the 20th.  See the schedule for our matches this year.

Thanks for spreadding the word.
